Your fitness is more than a number on the scale. We measure what actually matters so you can train smarter, age better, and move with confidence.
Your fitness is more than a number on the scale. We measure VO2 max, body composition, grip strength and balance to show how your body truly performs.
At Vitalis Health, we believe that your fitness is more than a number on the scale. Our Fitness Intelligence Assessment is a unique, science-backed evaluation that goes beyond BMI or weight to give you a clear picture of your physical health and functional capacity. Whether you are an athlete, a busy professional, or someone trying to stay active and age well, this assessment helps you understand your strengths, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
This is not a one-size-fits-all fitness test. It’s a personalized analysis of your body’s endurance, strength, composition, and stability. Offering insights that can help you move better, feel stronger, and prevent future issues like falls, joint problems, or muscle loss. We measure VO₂ max, a critical marker of cardiovascular and aerobic fitness that reflects how efficiently your body uses oxygen during activity. This is a strong predictor of both longevity and performance.
Most people judge their fitness by the number on a weighing scale or by how they feel after a walk. Body weight alone tells you almost nothing about what is actually happening inside your body. It is entirely possible to be within a normal weight range and still carry dangerous levels of visceral fat around your internal organs. It is equally possible to feel well and have a VO2 max that places you at elevated risk of heart disease and premature mortality.
The Fitness Intelligence Assessment at Vitalis Health is a comprehensive, clinically supervised evaluation that provides a precise, evidence-based picture of your physical health across five key domains: cardiovascular fitness, body composition, muscular strength and endurance, balance and coordination, and flexibility.
This is not a gym test. It is a medically supervised assessment conducted by trained clinical staff and reviewed by a trained physician. You receive a printed report with personalised exercise and lifestyle recommendations on the same day.
VO2 max estimation using the Ebbeling single-stage treadmill protocol, a validated and widely accepted predictor of longevity and cardiovascular health in adults.
Segmental fat, skeletal muscle mass, visceral fat level, and basal metabolic rate, measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. This goes considerably further than BMI.
Handgrip dynamometry, push-ups, bodyweight squats, and a timed plank, each scored against age- and sex-matched normative data from published clinical studies.
The Star Excursion Balance Test and the Balance Error Scoring System are validated clinical tools that detect balance deficits and lower-limb injury risk before they cause harm.
A sit-and-reach assessment of hamstring and lumbar flexibility, scored against published normative standards without a prior warm-up.
The Fitness Intelligence Assessment is suitable for almost anyone. You do not need to be an athlete or even regularly active. Our protocols are calibrated to your current fitness level and adjusted for age, health status, and any relevant medical history.
This assessment is particularly valuable if you want to start exercising but are unsure where to begin, if you feel tired or breathless more easily than expected, or if you are managing a condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or a thyroid disorder. It is also well suited to anyone over 35 who has not had a formal fitness evaluation, those planning post-illness or post-surgical recovery, and anyone who wants a data-driven baseline to guide their long-term health decisions.
At the end of the session, your doctor reviews all results with you in a physician consultation. You receive a printed fitness report that includes your complete body composition data with segmental breakdown, your estimated VO2 max and cardiovascular fitness category, personalised heart rate training zones calculated using the Karvonen method, strength and endurance scores compared against age-matched norms, balance and flexibility ratings with clinical interpretation, an overall fitness score out of 100 across all five domains, and specific exercise and lifestyle recommendations from the physician.
We begin with height, weight, blood pressure, resting heart rate, and oxygen saturation. Body composition is then measured using the Accuniq BC380 bioelectrical impedance analyser, providing segmental muscle mass, fat percentage, visceral fat level, and basal metabolic rate.
You walk on a treadmill at a comfortable pace while wearing a heart rate monitor. The Ebbeling single-stage protocol estimates your maximal aerobic capacity without requiring you to push to exhaustion. It is safe for most adults, including those with chronic conditions.
Handgrip strength, push-ups, bodyweight squats, and a timed plank are each scored against age- and sex-based benchmarks. These tests reveal functional strength, muscular endurance, and core stability.
The Star Excursion Balance Test measures dynamic stability and lower-limb injury risk. The BESS assesses static postural control. A sit-and-reach test completes the session.
All results are scored in real time using the Vitalis Physical Fitness Evaluation App. Your doctor or lifestyle coach reviews the complete report with you, explains what the results mean in plain language, and provides a personalised exercise prescription and lifestyle plan.
The assessment is designed for adults of all fitness levels, from completely sedentary individuals to those who are regularly active. We calibrate each test to your current ability and adjust protocols for age, medical conditions, or physical limitations. Patients with diabetes, hypertension, or heart conditions are welcome. We will ask about your medical history before we begin and modify the evaluation where needed.
Plan for approximately 90 to 120 minutes, including the physician consultation and report review at the end. We recommend wearing comfortable athletic clothing and arriving well hydrated. Please avoid heavy meals and vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
We screen every patient before the treadmill test for contraindications including uncontrolled blood pressure, recent cardiac symptoms, or acute illness. If your resting blood pressure is above 180 over 110 mmHg on the day, we will defer the treadmill component. The Ebbeling protocol we use is a submaximal walking test and is considerably gentler than a cardiac exercise stress test. If you have significant heart disease, please inform us when booking so we can plan appropriately.
No referral is needed. You can book directly through our website or by calling the clinic. If you have a specific medical condition, it is helpful to bring a list of your current medications and any recent investigation reports.
A treadmill stress test is a cardiac diagnostic test that monitors your ECG for signs of coronary artery disease during incremental exercise. It is used to detect or rule out heart blockages. Our VO2 Max treadmill test is a fitness assessment that estimates your aerobic capacity using heart rate response. Both use the same equipment but serve very different clinical purposes. We offer the treadmill stress test as a separate cardiac assessment. Please ask us if you need both.
Yes. A printed fitness report is generated during the session and reviewed with you before you leave. A digital copy is also saved to your patient file at Vitalis Health. You can request additional copies at any time by contacting the clinic.
Our clinic team will guide you through the process from booking to results.
